Study at Bangor University

Bangor University is a multi-campus university with campuses in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wrexham, and London. It was founded as the University College of North Wales in 1884 and became a constituent college of the federal University of Wales in 1894. It gained full university status in 2007 when it renamed itself the University of Wales, Bangor.

Bangor University traces its origins to the summit of Mount Snowdon, where Welsh culture has been celebrated for centuries. In 1884, the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) opened the Royal Welsh Agricultural College on this site. The College was established to teach agricultural science under Sir Joseph Fayrer. In 1903, the College moved to Aberystwyth, joining Aberystwyth University College.

The university competes in sports such as rowing, hockey, rugby union, and football; it also has a medical school with a good reputation. The university’s main campus is on Deiniol Road in Bangor, with other campuses in Colwyn Bay, Llanrug, and Wrexham. Many students from northwest Wales, including Wrexham, study there due to the proximity of Bangor Normal College, an old teacher training college acquired in 1975.

The university offers all undergraduate and postgraduate courses fully compliant with professional, vocational, and technical syllabus requirements, as well as research degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The university has various academic schools offering degrees in different subject areas: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Education; Health Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering; Physical Sciences, etc.

Scholarship opportunities

Scholarships are available to students studying at the University of Bangor in Wales and offer a wide range of scholarships for international students from all over the world. The scholarships are provided to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills, and a commitment to social responsibility.

The scholarships are available to all undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in any subject area, although some scholarships only apply to specific courses or years of study.

The scholarship awards are £1,000 per year for three years of study (i.e., up to three consecutive years). Scholarships may be renewed for a further year if applicants have achieved a first-class or 2:1 degree in their first year at Bangor University. Students awarded a scholarship must also be registered for at least one course at Bangor University each year.
