Ulster University has a long and distinguished history of education and research. Based in Northern Ireland, the university has its roots in the establishment of Queen’s College Belfast in 1845, which was established to provide instruction for those unable to attend Trinity College Dublin.

Queen’s College merged with the University of Belfast in 1984 to form the new Queen’s University Belfast, which is now one of the largest universities in Northern Ireland. In 1994, Queen’s University Belfast opened a new campus in Londonderry, known as the Ulster University at Coleraine Campus. This campus has grown over the years to include several other sites around Northern Ireland.

In 2008, Queen’s University Belfast opened a new campus at Jordanstown – home to the School of Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering & Electronics – which has since become known as Ulster University at Jordanstown (UUJ). This campus hosts undergraduate programmes such as BSc Computer Science and BSc Electronic Engineering, alongside postgraduate programmes such as MSc Software Development Practice and MSc Software Engineering Management & Innovation.

In 2012, Queen’s University Belfast announced planned to open a new campus in Birmingham City Centre that would later be named Ulster University.

Ulster University Birmingham is one of three campuses of Ulster University in the UK, along with Jordanstown (Northern Ireland) and Coleraine (Northern Ireland).

Ulster University Birmingham is located on the edge of Edgbaston Reservoir, in Edgbaston, Birmingham city center. It offers various undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various subjects, including business, computing, and engineering. Students at the campus also have access to various student services, including career advice, counseling, disability support, and academic skills training. The campus works closely with local businesses through its Enterprise Hub, which provides training to help students develop employability skills.

The campus has been open since 2012 and had around 27,000 students studying full-time or part-time undergraduate degrees as of 2021, with a total of 1200 international students from more than 143 countries.  The following are the main campuses of the University: Belfast, Jordanstown, Coleraine and Magee

Scholarships for international students

The University is proud to offer a wide range of scholarships to support international students. 

You can apply for any of the following scholarships:

International student scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit and financial need. They are offered to candidates who are not eligible for a Tier 4 (General) student visa or are not making an application for this visa.

There are different types of scholarships available:

  • University-wide Scholarships (funded by the University): These scholarships cover tuition fees only but do not cover living expenses.
  • Centre-specific Scholarships (funded by Centres at Ulster University): These scholarships cover tuition fees only but do not cover living expenses.
  • Departmental Scholarships (funded by Departments within Schools): These scholarships generally include tuition fees and a maintenance grant for living expenses.
