The University of Lincoln is a public research university in Lincoln, England, UK. It was founded as Bishop Grosseteste University College in 1861. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, there was a shortage of teachers in the UK, and so the college offered evening classes for members of the armed forces and adults who wanted to enter teaching. The college also taught students who were training to be priests.
The University College became an independent university in 1992 with degree awarding powers validated by the Privy Council, under the name University of Lincolnshire and Humberside (UoLH). In 2008, after a review by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), it changed its name to the University of Lincoln. On 1 August 2016, it merged with De Montfort University under the name University of Lincoln – De Montfort.
The University’s main campus is on Riseholme Road at Brayford Pool (the site of the former Brayford Waterworks), just north of the centre of Lincoln. The University’s second campus is located on Wigford Way, near Brayford Pool, and is known as Waterside Campus. The University had about 14,105 full-time equivalents (FTE) students at its main campus and more than 10,000 full-time equivalents (FTE) at its second campus in Waterside as of 2016.
The university offers over 300 undergraduate programmes, including BSc (Hons) degrees in Business Studies, Computing, Economics, English Literature, Environmental Sciences, International Relations, Music Technology, Psychology, and Sociology. It also offers postgraduate programmes such as MSc (Hons) degrees in Business Studies, Computer Science and Psychology; MPhil degrees in Sociology; PhD programmes in English Literature and Sociology; Certificate of Higher Education (CHE) programmes in Computing Science.

The Lincoln University Business School Scholarship Scheme
This scheme offers scholarships to undergraduate business students with high academic ability and potential levels. The scheme is intended to encourage high-quality candidates into the field of business studies, particularly those from under-represented groups such as women, ethnic minority students, and students with disabilities. The scholarship is worth up to £1,500 per year for three years (subject to satisfactory progression).
The Lincoln University Faculty of Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme
This scheme will be awarded annually and comprises two schemes, one for Academic Excellence and one for Coursework Excellence. Students must be studying full-time on a graded honors degree programme in any faculty within the Faculty of Science & Technology at the University. This award may be used towards tuition fees and maintenance costs during your first year at the University, subject to satisfactory academic progression.
